Is the evaluation required by insurance?

Most insurers require a pre-surgical psychological evaluation as part of bariatric coverage, and virtually all accredited surgical programs require one as well.

How long does the evaluation take?

Typically one appointment of 60–90 minutes, followed by a written report sent to your surgical team within a few business days.

Can it be done via telehealth?

Yes, for clients in North Carolina and South Carolina, when the surgical program and insurer allow.

How much does it cost?

Fees vary. Some clients use insurance benefits; others self-pay. We provide a written fee agreement in advance so there are no surprises.

What if I have a mental health diagnosis?

Having a diagnosis does not disqualify you. What matters is that any current conditions are stable and managed. We will discuss your current care and coordinate with your providers when appropriate.

What if I've had a rocky history with food or substances?

We ask about substance use, disordered eating, and other patterns because they are relevant to long-term outcomes. Being honest gives you the best support. In most cases we can identify targeted preparation steps rather than delay surgery.

What if you have concerns about my readiness?

We do not surprise you with a "no." If we identify concerns, we discuss them with you, recommend focused steps (often a short course of counseling or coaching), and communicate a clear plan to your surgical program.

Will you share information with my surgical team?

Yes — a written report goes to your surgical program with your consent, so they have the information they need to plan your care.

How do I schedule?

Call 919-583-7910 or use our online scheduler. Have your surgical program's contact information and any pre-op paperwork ready.
